1. Purpose

Earth Village CIC is committed to operating in a way that protects, restores, and respects the natural environment.
Our work is rooted in community wellbeing, regeneration, land stewardship, and conscious relationship with the earth.

This policy sets out our commitment to reducing environmental harm, improving sustainability, and embedding ecological awareness into all activities, events, partnerships, and operational decisions.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Directors and staff

  • Freelancers and facilitators

  • Volunteers

  • Participants and attendees

  • Partner organisations

  • Contractors and suppliers

  • All Earth Village CIC events, gatherings, projects, and sites

3. Our Environmental Commitments

Earth Village CIC commits to:

  • Minimising waste and pollution

  • Reducing carbon emissions where possible

  • Supporting biodiversity and habitat protection

  • Encouraging regenerative land practices

  • Using resources responsibly

4. Sustainable Event Practices

Where reasonably practical, Earth Village CIC will:

Waste Reduction

  • Encourage reusable cups, plates, and cutlery

  • Reduce single-use plastics

  • Provide recycling and waste separation facilities

  • Compost organic waste where facilities allow

  • Minimise printed materials

Energy Use

  • Use low-energy equipment and lighting where possible

  • Avoid unnecessary generator use

  • Explore renewable energy options for events and sites

Food & Catering

  • Prioritise locally sourced produce

  • Encourage seasonal and low-impact food options

  • Minimise food waste

  • Support ethical and environmentally responsible caterers

Travel

  • Encourage car sharing and public transport

  • Promote local participation where possible

  • Use online meetings to reduce unnecessary travel

5. Land & Nature Stewardship

When operating on land or outdoor sites, Earth Village CIC aims to:

  • Respect wildlife habitats and ecosystems

  • Avoid damage to trees, waterways, and natural features

  • Leave sites clean and restored after use

  • Support biodiversity through planting and regenerative practices

  • Avoid harmful chemicals where possible

  • Promote responsible fire and waste management

6. Procurement & Purchasing

Earth Village CIC will aim to purchase goods and services that are:

  • Reusable, repairable, or recyclable

  • Ethically sourced

  • Low in environmental impact

  • Durable rather than disposable

  • Purchased locally where feasible

Environmental impact will be considered alongside cost and practicality.

7. Education & Community Culture

We believe environmental responsibility is a shared community practice.

Earth Village CIC will:

  • Encourage ecological awareness in workshops and gatherings

  • Promote respectful interaction with land and nature

  • Support learning around sustainability, regeneration, and community resilience

  • Encourage participants to take shared responsibility for environmental care

8. Legal Compliance

Earth Village CIC will comply with relevant environmental legislation and seek to operate in line with good practice guidance relating to:

  • Waste disposal

  • Pollution prevention

  • Environmental protection

  • Health and safety

  • Land use responsibilities

9. Responsibility

The Directors of Earth Village CIC hold overall responsibility for ensuring this policy is implemented and reviewed.

All staff, facilitators, volunteers, and participants are expected to support the aims of this policy and act in environmentally responsible ways during Earth Village CIC activities.

10. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if operational needs, legislation, or organisational activities significantly change.
