Facilitator Code of Conduct

Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets expectations for all facilitators, trainees, volunteers and practitioners working under the umbrella of Earth Village CIC.
The purpose is to protect participants, facilitators and the integrity of the community.

Professional Boundaries
Facilitators must:
Respect participant autonomy
Avoid coercion or manipulation
Avoid exploiting power dynamics
Maintain appropriate boundaries
Avoid making unrealistic promises
Work within their competence and training
Facilitators should not position themselves as medical or mental health professionals unless appropriately qualified.
Consent Standards
Facilitators must:
Use clear consent-based communication
Respect verbal and non-verbal boundaries
Never pressure participation
Allow participants to opt out freely
Model ongoing consent practices
Consent must never be assumed.
Confidentiality
Facilitators are expected to:
Respect participant privacy
Avoid sharing personal disclosures without permission
Maintain confidentiality except where safeguarding or legal obligations require disclosure
Inclusion & Non-Discrimination
Facilitators must:
Treat participants respectfully
Avoid discriminatory language or behaviour
Support inclusive group culture
Remain open to feedback and accountability
Conflict of Interest
Facilitators should disclose any conflicts of interest that could impact:
Decision-making
Participant safety
Financial integrity
Fairness within the organisation
Substance Use
Facilitators must not lead activities while impaired by:
Alcohol
Illegal substances
Misuse of medication
Earth Village CIC may set specific policies for substance-free events.
Social & Sexual Boundaries
Because Earth Village CIC may operate within sexuality and intimacy-related spaces, facilitators are expected to maintain particularly high ethical standards around power dynamics.
Facilitators must not:
Pressure intimacy
Use facilitation status to pursue sexual relationships
Exploit participant vulnerability
Blur professional boundaries irresponsibly
Any existing or developing relationships that may create ethical concerns should be disclosed to the organisation.
Accountability Process
Concerns regarding facilitator conduct may result in:
Informal discussion
Supervision or training requirements
Suspension from facilitation
Removal from the organisation
Earth Village CIC will aim to handle concerns fairly and proportionately.
